About me

Born in the Netherlands in 1959, I moved a couple of years ago with husband and 5 cats to the West of Ireland. Our family has grown since and we now have 7 cats, 2 dogs and 2 horses.

I can not say that I was interested in drawing and painting from a young age because I was not.
I love animals and my parents had to cope with me bringing all kind of creatures home. From injured birds to pregnant hamsters. On Sundays you could either find me on the road side watching motorbikes pass, or with my dad in front of the telly watching Formula 1 races or the Tour de France. Nothing remotely connected with drawing.

It all started in 2009, when I was asked by a neighbour if I would be interested in following an Art class at the local Community Centre. It would only be around 5 people, so very small and nothing to serious.
I said yes and that was the start. The course was really nothing serious but fun and we still have our little Art Class on Monday evenings. Some time later it got really serious when I wanted to make a painting of a friends’ horse as a “Thank you” gesture for all his help with training our two unhandled Clydesdale Horses. I had the photo, but what to do next.
After surfing the internet I found the website of Vivien Walters. She is a great Animal Portrait Artist in the UK and gives also online courses. I contacted her, emailed her the photo and asked if she could guide me drawing this horse in pastels. Luckily she said yes, and it all went upwards from there. That first horse painting was Amazon Amber. You can see Ambers painting in the Gallery.
