Welcome to my website.
Born in the Netherlands in 1959, I moved a couple of years ago with husband and 5 cats to the West of Ireland. Our family has grown since to 6 cats, 1 dog and 2 horses.
In the Netherlands in the eighties, Art and Art History was introduced as an Exam Subject in Secondary School and I was one of the first to take the opportunity to develop my Art skills.
Although having graduated in this subject, my life moved in a different direction and it wasn’t until recently, that I decided to pick up drawing again.
It all started when I was asked by a neighbour if I would be interested in following an Art class at the local Community Centre. It would only be around 5 people, so very small and nothing to serious.
I said yes and that was the start. The course was really nothing serious, but it gave me the taste to want to do more.
Some time later it got really serious when I wanted to make a painting of a friends’ horse as a “Thank you” gesture for all his help with training our two unhandled Clydesdale Horses. I had the photo, but what to do next.
After surfing the internet I found Vivien Walters' website. She is a great Animal Portrait Artist in the UK and gives also online courses. I contacted her, emailed her the photo and asked if she could guide me drawing this horse in pastels. Luckily she said yes, and it all went upwards from there. That first horse painting was Amazon Amber. You can see her painting in my Gallery.
My main interest is animals and plants, and at the moment my focus is on animals. As it is not always possible to see them in life, I mainly work from photographs. With my paintings I try to bring to life a truly exquisite portrait, depicting the character, likeness, personality and expression of each animal.
Most of my animals paintings are in Pastel on velours paper. This combination creates a beautifull soft look which suits an animal very much.
